I want to pass the security key. I no longer need a key hanging from my key ring, and I definitely don’t need anything else that I might lose. If I forget my password, I can change it and access my stuff. If I understand what you just explained, losing the security key means, in physics terms, that I will be connected to another object through an inclined plane that spirals around the axis
Once you’re set up, you’ll only need your security key if you plan to set up a new Apple device or go online to use iCloud. You don’t need to carry this key with you – even for months or years. Your phone or iPad won’t require you to re-authenticate yourself with this key. Plus, you don’t have a security key set up on that device. You are using the device to set up a security key for your Apple account. Once you set up a security key, all your other Apple devices will know it. The only reason to carry a security key is if you also use the same key you configured to use it on a particular site. Some people will configure their Mac or PC to sign in with the same security key you may have to carry with you. But that’s a completely different issue than setting up an Apple account.
